How should the semen sample be collected for the BabyStart Male Fertility Test test? Is collection directly into the sample cup or using one of the condoms provided equally effective?
We recommend either method. The important thing is to make sure that you collect as much of the semen as possible in the sample cup or condom.

Why wait for 15 minutes after adding the semen to the sample cup?
Semen is gel-like when it is fresh and this is not suitable for use in the test. The sample cup contains a substance that will liquefy the semen sample so that it can be used in the test.

There are small flakes at the bottom of the sample cup. Should I still use the cup?
Yes. This flaking may occur in normal shipping and handling of the test kit. Do not remove the flakes since they will be absorbed by the semen sample and help to liquefy the semen sample ready for use.

Does it really matter how much of the semen solution is added to the test well ?
Yes, you should only add ONE drop to the test well using the plastic dropper provided.

I made a mistake using Test Well B. What should I do ?
Restart the test using Test Well D and compare the result with Test Well D. You will then need to purchase another test kit so that you can perform a second test within 3-7 days of the first test.

A blue colour appeared as soon as I added the Blue solution to the Test Well (but before I added the Clear Solution). Does this mean the test is positive ?
Not necessarily. Complete the test by adding the clear solution as described in the kit instructions and then read the result.

How long should it take for the liquefied semen sample to drain through the filter in the Test Well?
It usually takes just a few seconds but if it takes more than 5 minutes then it is almost certain that the semen sample has not liquefied properly. Repeat the test using a fresh semen sample in 3-7 days.

How long should I wait between tests ?
You should wait at least 3 days after ejaculating before you collect another semen sample for testing. It is best to wait between 3-7 days before performing the second test.

Does two positive test results indicate that I am fertile?
It is a good sign but actually does not mean that you will be certain to be fertile. Even if your sperm concentration is good there are other causes of infertility in both you and your partner. However, if you and your partner are having intercourse around the time of your partners ovulation then conception should occur within a few months. If this does not happen then you should consult a doctor.

Why do I have to wait 10 weeks to retest when I have one positive result and one negative result?
Since sperm are produced in batches every 70 days their is no point in doing further testing on yourself until a new batch of sperm are produced. After 10 weeks you can be sure that a new batch of sperm has been produced and it will be worth testing yourself again.

Are the BabyStart Male Fertility Test kit solutions safe?
Yes. However, they should be handled with care and disposed of promptly after the kit has been used for two tests

What could cause errors in the BabyStart Male Fertility Test test results?
It is important to follow the test procedure described in the instruction sheet if you are to get an accurate result. Improper handling of the semen sample may cause errors and some semen samples may not liquefy properly. This is a condition called high semen viscosity and you should discuss this with your doctor.
