...For Her ...The Menstrual Cycle ...Hormones

Hormones

Various hormones at different points in the cycle bring about ovulation, enable fertilisation and implantation of the egg. If these events are successful pregnancy is achieved; if not, the process is repeated the next cycle.

Lets keep this nice and simple!

Every month your body prepares itself for pregnancy whether you like it or not.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) - responsible for the initial development of a few follicles each month. Oestrogen - produced by the follicles. It is responsible for maturing your eggs, the lining of the uterus and developing wet cervical fluid as you approach ovulation.
LH (Luteinising Hormone) - stimulates the follicle to manufacture and secrete oestrogen. When your oestrogen reaches a partiular level LH will surge and ovulation follows. Progesterone - This hormone is made by the corpus luteum. It stops the production of any more eggs and causes the lining of your uterus to thicken ready for egg implantation. When progesterone production stops your period starts.
